ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA), is the only agency in San Mateo County providing crisis intervention and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence and their children, seeks a Director of Clinical Services to oversee all clinical staff and MSW/MFT interns and trainees and ensure optimal service for all patients.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Executive Director and in collaboration with other Leadership, the Director of Clinical Services will ensure that all direct service staff are providing responsive and appropriate domestic violence prevention and intervention services to survivors. The Director of Clinical Services will oversee all clinical staff and MSW/MFT interns & trainees. The Director of Clinical Services will work in collaboration with the Program Manager to provide education, expertise, and leadership in implementing quality best practices across the organization, with participation, development and attainment of department, program, and agency goals.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management and Supervision

 

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the mental health counseling services and children’s services ensure quality service delivery.
  • Incorporate, train, and implement evidence-based practices/programs to all program staff, volunteers and managers including the utilization of trauma informed practices.
  • Supervise program manager/s and coordinators, including training and implementation of protocols.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff/interns/volunteers to ensure the success, sustainability, resourcefulness, and ongoing development of program services, support and healing methods to increase social and emotional wellbeing and promote healthy child development and family bonding.
  • Provide programmatic leadership that ensures high quality of service and contract compliance for all programs and contracts.
  • Complete annual staff evaluations and design performance plans for direct reports.  Ensure effective performance management for managers and coordinators.
  • Ensure client-centeredness and cultural appropriateness of programs and services in keeping with agency goals and values.
  • Provide strong leadership and people management that reflects CORA’s values, including mutual respect, compassion and integrity.
  • Collaborate with the Community Education Coordinator on the Domestic Violence Counselor training components and outreach to partner agencies.
  • Lead department based process for volunteer recruitment, training and retention, including necessary relationships with universities and colleges for Clinical Intern program.

 

Clinical Services Planning and Implementation

 

  • Conduct individual and group clinical supervision as required by the BBS and in accordance with HIPAA practices
  • Lead, coordinate, and implement continuous compliance of Clinical programs to meet all necessary requirements of BBS and HIPAA protocols.
  • Assess and direct continuous quality assurance/improvement to ensure quality and effectiveness of service delivery, including quality planning and strategies, compliance and corrective-action management experiences.
  • Approve case assessments, clinical & service notes and collaborate on treatment planning with direct service staff, volunteers, interns, and trainees, in order to determine most appropriate interventions and treatment modality.
  • With the support of the Development Department, oversee timely and effective grant reporting, ensure program activities comply with contracts and grant deliverables are met.
  • Ensure timely data entry, so that the Data Analyst can collect accurate statistics and ensure timely submission of grant and board reports.
  • Design work plans and ensure alignment with agency strategic goals.
  • Stay abreast of developments and trends in areas of practice, including Clinical and Anti-Violence Movement interventions and practices, and use those best practices to inform program supervision and development.
  • Develop and implement new services as appropriate.
  • Center an organizational and community lens and approach above department, program, and individualistic viewpoints.

Community Outreach & Collaboration

 

  • Maintain current agency collaborations and identify opportunities for new collaborations as appropriate.
  • Represent CORA at county-wide meetings and grant related public hearings, as needed.
  • Act as a liaison with government agencies, the community and the public relative to funding, contracts, and delivery of services.

 

Financial Management

 

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Finance & Operations, participates in the development and monitoring of the fiscal aspects of the programs. This includes contractual reporting on service goals and objectives and assuring adequate financing for program operating needs and long-term goals.
  • Participates in the organizational budget process, providing leadership, context and communication concerning programmatic and staffing needs. In conjunction with the Director of Finance & Operations, this includes quarterly financial budget reviews and oversight pertaining to programmatic contracts and grants.

 

Operations

 

  • Coordinate cross-program meetings to ensure consistency, communication, and coordination between program department managers and directors to ensure quality services for CORA clients.
  • Participate as a member of the senior leadership team in the development and implementation of organization-wide policies and programs.
  • Attend supervision, departmental, and agency staff meetings and participate in training as assigned.
  • Provide support as needed during contractual/manager/staff meetings, internal/external audits, trainings, grant proposal writing, site visits and evaluation of program staff to ensure compliance with contracts and agency policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and ensure the continuous professional development staff within the department.
  • In collaboration with the Program Manager, develop and implement new supportive programming as needed.
  • With the support of the Director of Finance and Operations, assist managers and coordinators with operational issues.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 8+ years of experience with a nonprofit
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Clinical supervisory role
  • Licensed MSW, MFT, or related Clinical Master’s Degree, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in clinical work, management/ administration/ program development, and coordination/ personnel
  • Clinical Social Worker License required
  • Eligible to supervise MSW/MFT interns and trainees in accordance to rules and regulations under the Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • Experience in evidence-based programs such as: motivational interviewing; harm reduction; seeking safety; cognitive behavioral therapy; EMDR; and trauma-focused cognitive processing therapy
  • Exceptional leadership skills
  • Dynamic communications skills, using effective tools and techniques, and engaging public speaking skills
  • Provide programmatic leadership that ensures high quality of service and contract compliance for all programs and contracts
  • Ensure client-centeredness and cultural appropriateness of programs and services in keeping with agency goals and values
  • Positive, effective oral and written communications with a wide range of individuals, including in emotionally charged and stressful situations
  • Proven ability to problem-solve, mediate, and manage people in a positive and constructive environment
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and/or projects, and ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as a team member
  • Knowledge of the complexity of domestic violence (DV) issues for the victims and their children. Experience with victims of domestic violence and child abuse or others suffering from trauma
  • Maintain current agency collaborations and identify opportunities for new collaborations as appropriate
  • Represent CORA at county-wide meetings and grant related public hearings, as needed.
  • Act as a liaison with government agencies, the community and the public relative to funding, contracts, and delivery of services
  • Certification in the 40-hour domestic violence services training required by the State of California, registration upon four months of employment acceptable
  • Flexibility regarding work setting, schedule, responsibilities, clients, and colleagues and to assist with crisis’ as needed
  • Valid CA driver’s license, own automobile; and auto liability insurance

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Access to a working automobile, clean DMV record, valid driver’s license, and proof of current auto insurance.
  • Successful results from a criminal background check, including fingerprint clearance.

 

MANDATED REPORTER STATUS

This position requires you to directly supervise children without the presence of a legal guardian or is a professionally licensed role that is listed in California’s Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).  As a result, you are a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse under CANRA and must become familiar with your obligations and how to carry them out in compliance with other federal and state funding obligations.  You must advise any client before speaking with them that you are a mandated reporter, and what that entails.  In the event that you determine a report of suspected abuse must be made, you must take all reasonable steps to advise your client before making the report.  You should also discuss with your client the option of making the report themselves, as opposed to your making the report about them or their children.

 

CORA History and Overview

CORA has provided services to survivors of intimate partner abuse for over 40 years. Our programs include Crisis Intervention Services, including a 24-hour hotline, collaboration with law enforcement, emergency shelter options, and supportive counseling. Family Support Services provides mental health therapy, supportive/transitional housing, and a children’s program. CORA has robust legal services for survivors of domestic violence and provides educational workshops about the dynamics of domestic violence and healthy relationship skills.
